Learn More Hypermod from Nova Engineering is an advanced flight test range instrumentation telemetry commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) system. The Hypermod Flight Test Transmitters for airborne systems use an inventive architecture based on high-speed direct digital synthesis (DDS) which eliminates the problems normally associated with traditional designs. For the ground receiver system, the Hypermod Demodulators enhance detection efficiency or increase data capacity, and provide a real-time signal quality display. Multiple waveforms are utilized in the Hypermod products: PCM/FM, SOQPSK and CPM. For current range telemetry systems using PCM/FM (also known as Continuous Phase Frequency Shift Keying, or CPFSK), Hypermod increases detection efficiency by more than 3 dB compared to standard methods. This additional link margin translates to increased range without costly antenna upgrades or increased transmitter output power. Nova Engineering's novel detection methods exploit the inherent "memory" in the waveform to achieve this dramatic improvement. To take advantage of the latest IRIG specifications, Hypermod uses a non-proprietary waveform called Shaped Offset Quadrature Phase-Shift Keying (SOQPSK). This mode provides twice the data capacity or one-half of the channel bandwidth of the standard waveform without sacrificing detection efficiency relative to legacy waveforms. For future missions, the Advanced Range Telemetry (ARTM) multi-h Continuous Phase Modulation (CPM) Tier II waveform enables this system to increase spectral efficiency further by utilizing only one-third of the bandwidth relative to legacy systems. Hypermod is unique in that it allows the choice of the most appropriate waveform for each mission. The ability to change the modulation type as well as the data rate - even after installation - provides tremendous flexibility for flight test engineers. Hypermod conforms to the IRIG-106 standard. IRIG (Inter-Range Instrumentation Group) is the standard for telemetry on U.S. Government test ranges. Nova Engineering's customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), as well as aerospace and defense prime contractors.
